In the 1950s there was a fashion for public clocks, copying American examples. There were 2 other clocks in New Zealand. Mr Hurst was a member of Napier's Thirty Thousand Club, an organisation whose goal it was to advance the welfare of Napier. Hurst was also a photographer and was chairman of the council's town planning committee.

Ocean Spa
Situated right by the sea with wonderful views one can swim, soak and play in the many heated salt chlorinated pools. Ocean Spa also has its own gym. If your hungry after all that it has a cafe and restaurant.
The Swan Memorial
This limestone wall which supports a tiled roof was built in 1917. It acted as a shelter for a children's paddling pool. The pool was said to be the first of its kind in New Zealand. G H Swan was Napier's mayor at the time , he did a lot to promote the development of Marine Parade
